The Zen of Bunny Balance: Insights on Work and Life

Posted by:

At bunny.net, we often emphasize the importance of the work-life balance. We prioritize it and try to incorporate it into our company mindset. Of course, complete freedom isn’t always possible, as we must allocate certain hours to team or company meetings while synchronizing our watches to navigate the maze of time zones.

However, work-life balance isn’t just about having the freedom to choose our most productive hours or juggling family chores and work commitments. What counts the most is a healthy mental state, which we try to foster by respecting the fact that work is not the only aspect of our lives. No doubt, working hours occupy a large chunk of our day, and that’s why it’s important to prevent feelings of being overwhelmed, pressured, stressed, or worn out. One needs to be able to switch off, relax, and reboot the brain so that we’re able to think again with full creativity.

But what do we do as a company to help our fluffle maintain this work-life balance? Here are a few insights.

Remote, flexible, and productive fluffle

Remote work makes balancing hobbies with work easier. It reduces commuting time and stress connected with traffic and time pressure, whether it means not missing your kid's dance class or simply avoiding being rushed all the time. The flexibility of remote work helps our teams stay in control of their schedules, and feel more relaxed and less stressed.

“Flexible hours” is a term that every company mentions in their job ads on their websites and social media posts. Unfortunately, it often means that you should be flexible to work whenever the company needs you to work; it rarely means that you are free to choose to work whenever you want. So, how is it at bunny.net?

Simple as pie, we mean what we say! For example, do you like to sleep in and work late? Not a problem! Would you rather split your working hours and take a long lunch break? Prefer working on weekends? Nights? Is a four-day workweek your life-long dream? As long as you do your work, we don’t care what time you do it, as productivity takes priority over the number of hours worked. Every person has a different pace; we understand that and we adapt to your schedule, not vice-versa.

This approach allows our team to focus on delivering high-quality results without the pressure of clocking in a set number of hours, fostering a more relaxed and efficient work environment.

Hopping into productive breaks

Taking regular breaks during the working day is a verified way to prevent burnout, maintain focus, and reduce stress. In fact, skipping breaks can lead to serious health problems and decrease productivity. Quality matters, too—e.g., reading your emails while eating or discussing work-related issues on coffee breaks is something to avoid. The breaks should be adequate and help relax and disconnect from work for a while.

Regeneration comes in many forms. Often, a short walk, a couple of stretches, or yoga can get us back into the state of zen. Work breaks are important; they seem small but they make a big difference.

During the workday, it’s highly recommended to take regular micro-breaks, close your eyes and stretch, take several short breaks for coffee or a quick chat, and one long meal break. At bunny.net, we try to encourage breaks, e.g., by offering in-office massages to reduce stress and enhance well-being, helping our team return refreshed and more productive. We also embrace fun with a must-have foosball table and PlayStation to support relaxation and team bonding.

Taking regular breaks during work are essential method for coping with stress and burn-out.

Every few months, a vacation becomes essential! Besides daily breaks, everyone needs a week or two off to recharge, and we bunnies are no different. Offering every member of our fluffle at least five weeks of paid vacation—ample time to relax, travel, and spend quality time with loved ones—is how we hop to it.

You choose when it’s time to recharge, not us. Would you prefer winter skiing over summer heat? Off you go! Want to do both? Go ahead! It's your choice, your time, disconnecting from work—no emails, no Slack—is encouraged. Enjoy your well-deserved break!

Details that make a big difference

As we wrap up our exploration of work-life balance, we can’t forget to mention the company culture that makes it possible. It’s all about simple human connection, understanding, and empathy that make people happy, feel heard, and comfortable. The key to our success is our fluffle; allowing it to hop along at its own pace and rhythm makes all the difference.
