About ParrotSec
About ParrotSec
Parrot Security OS is a free, open-source GNU/Linux distribution based on Debian, designed for security experts, developers, and privacy-aware people. It's a practical toolkit for cybersecurity specialists and a friendly companion for anyone looking to get closer to the cybersecurity world.
Unlike similar operating systems, it comes pre-installed with coding tools and receives regular updates to support popular software. The project started in 2013 as a small, homemade OS, but its user base quickly grew to over 200 thousand.
The challenges
The challenges
Parrot needed to support more than 9000 downloads, totaling over 102 gigabytes of data. In the beginning, Parrot relied on volunteer mirror providers to increase their availability. But the mirror provider system introduced security risks: third parties could overwrite any download, and the Parrot team had no way to stop it. Parrot’s bandwidth issue had evolved into a security issue.
Parrot decided to use a CDN, but early attempts fell short. Traditional CDNs were expensive and inefficient, and some failed to comply with GDPR. Parrot needed a solution that avoided costly enterprise pricing while still providing secure, fast, efficient downloads.

"We tried several CDN providers before, and although they were more expensive, they didn't offer the same performance and reliability. After switching to bunny.net, our users immediately noticed how fast and reliable the downloads became."

The solution
The solution
Enter bunny.net! We worked with ParrotSec to build an affordable platform to host all of their architectures. With our custom pricing model, ParrotSec saved 80% on delivery costs. Other CDN networks tried to charge enterprise rates for features they didn’t use, but we offered a plan tailored to their unique circumstances at an affordable rate.
ParrotSec needed to host 5 different versions of ParrotOS, so we switched them over to BunnyCDN and Bunny Storage. We set them up with a pay-as-you-go model and only charged them for the services they actually used. To make sure everything ran smoothly, we created a private Slack channel and gave ParrotSec direct 24/7 access to our Super Bunny support team

The results
Once Parrot switched to bunny.net, the team never looked back. Their users quickly noticed improved service and faster downloads. Complaints about security risks dropped off.
We surprised ParrotSec by delivering faster performance on a single bunny.net server than their previous CDN provided with six. And we did it at a fraction of the cost. ParrotSec wasn’t being served by major providers, so bunny.net stepped in to fill the gap.
